ROSTERS LOADED WITH TALENT FOR AUTOZONE LIBERTY BOWL HIGH SCHOOL ALL-STAR GAME

The 10th Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game will feature the top 84 high school seniors representing 42 schools from the Memphis City Schools, Shelby County Schools and private schools within the Memphis metro area. Each player was selected on the basis of his character, his on and off-field achievements and his classroom performance.

Three finalists for the state of Tennessee’s Mr. Football Award are among this year’s All-Star Game participants: massive offensive lineman Brandon Hill of St. George’s, SBEC’s versatile quarterback Josh Kimberlin and Brian Kimbrow from East High School, Shelby County’s second-leading rusher.

Devin Rutherford, the head coach at White Station High School, will coach the Red team and Earl Lester, the head coach at Kingsbury High School, will coach the Blue team. “With these very fine head coaches leading the teams, we will continue the tradition of excellence the All-Star Game has established over the past nine years,” said AutoZone Liberty Bowl executive director Steve Ehrhart.

“The AutoZone Liberty Bowl All-Star Game gives the fans an opportunity to see local talent that, in many cases, they have only heard or read about,” said Rutherford. “Because of the exposure the All-Star Game has created over the past nine years, there has been an increase in the stature and visibility of all high school football programs in the Memphis area.”

“This game gives Memphis a chance to showcase the abundance of talent in the Memphis area,” said Lester. “It gives all these senior players one last opportunity to have a great experience in their final high school game.”

The All-Star Game will be played Saturday, December 10 at Memphis University School. The kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the AutoZone Liberty Bowl ticket office, 795-7700. The game will be televised live by Comcast Cable (Channel 31) and broadcast on radio by Sports 56 WHBQ.
