Diamond Rio, one of the most successful groups in the history of country music, has been selected as the recipient of the 2013 AutoZone Liberty Bowl’s Outstanding Achievement Award. Each year, this award is presented in recognition of excellence in the field of music and entertainment, as well as service to the community. Diamond Rio will receive the award at the Presidents’ Gala at the Peabody Hotel at 7pm on December 30, 2013. Past recipients include Danny Thomas, Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Lou Rawls, Clint Black, Little Richard, Alabama, The Beach Boys, LeAnn Rimes, The O’Jays, KC & The Sunshine Band and last year’s honoree, The Temptations.
Diamond Rio will be the headline entertainment at the Presidents’ Gala Dinner Dance and star in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl’s halftime spectacular on December 31, 2013. The AutoZone Liberty Bowl game will kickoff at 3pm.
Diamond Rio has sold over 10 million albums, earning three platinum records and five gold records. They won their first Grammy Award in 2011 and have a total of 14 Grammy nominations. They have also been honored as the Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year four times, and twice as the Vocal Group of the Year by the Academy of Country Music.
Diamond Rio’s debut song, “Meet in the Middle”, was a huge hit as it reached number one on the music charts. That accomplishment made Diamond Rio the first group in the history of country music to have a debut single rank number one on the music charts.
Since that initial success in 1991, Diamond Rio has had hit after hit. They have had 33 singles on the Billboard charts, including number one songs “I Believe” and “Beautiful Mess”. Their other notable hit tunes include “How Your Love Makes Me Feel”, “Norma Jean Riley”, “Love a Little Stronger”, and “One More Day”.
Diamond Rio will perform two of their best known tunes during halftime of the 55th AutoZone Liberty Bowl game, “Beautiful Mess” and patriotic fan favorite “In God We Still Trust”.
In addition to Diamond Rio’s many hit records, they have had an incredible impact on the lives of children through their long-time support of Big Brothers-Big Sisters. They have served as national spokesmen for Big Brothers-Big Sisters and have raised more than $1.5 million dollars for the charity.
