The 57th Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl Football Classic will be played Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 2:20 p.m. CST. The Saturday afternoon kickoff is the traditional time for fans across America to watch college football. The game will feature teams from the Big 12 and SEC and will be televised nationally and internationally on ESPN and broadcast by ESPN Radio.
“We’re thrilled to have our game on a wonderful Saturday afternoon,” said Steve Ehrhart, Executive Director of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. “This date and time gives us a tremendous opportunity to showcase two great teams, our Memphis community and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to millions of ESPN viewers. The Saturday date will also make it convenient for local fans, as well as fans making the trip to Memphis for an exciting New Year’s weekend and a great bowl experience.”
This will be the third time the AutoZone Liberty Bowl has been played on January 2. The other games were in 2009 (2008 season) with Kentucky defeating East Carolina 25-19 and in 2010 (2009 season) when Arkansas outscored East Carolina 20-17 in a highly rated overtime game.
