for Extra Yard For Teachers Week and

The Big Day For Teachers

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl and the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation kicked off Extra Yard for Teachers Week with The Big Day For Teachers and a special surprise presentation to Ridgeway High School teacher Jawanna Franklin. The Big Day For Teachers is a nationwide day of celebration and recognition of teachers. The AutoZone Liberty Bowl presented Franklin with a $1,000 DonorsChoose gift card to be used for classroom or student resources and projects that help keep kids learning.

Franklin earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Memphis and her master’s degree in teaching from National University. This is Franklin’s 19th year as an educator and her 5th year teaching history at Ridgeway High School. In addition to teaching, Franklin serves as Ridgeway’s senior class sponsor. She previously taught at Wooddale High School and Power Center Academy. Outside of the classroom, Franklin loves to read, bake and support her family.

“The Big Day For Teachers and Extra Yard for Teachers Week is all about supporting and celebrating teachers in our community,” said Harold Graeter, Associate Executive Director of the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. “We’re proud to partner with the College Football Playoff Foundation in recognizing Jawanna Franklin for her many years as an educator, her service to Ridgeway High School and most importantly, for making a positive difference in the lives of her students. The DonorsChoose gift card will provide her with much needed resources so she can continue to have a positive impact on her students.”

Extra Yard for Teachers Week continues through September 24th, as college football goes the extra yard to honor and recognize great teachers.

Starting the week of September 26th and continuing throughout the Fall, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl will participate in the "Tag A Teacher" Program. “Tag A Teacher” is part of the College Football Playoff Foundation’s national Extra Yard for Teachers program. Each week throughout the college football season, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl will select a “tagged” or nominated teacher from the Memphis area to receive a $500 DonorsChoose gift card.

You can nominate your favorite teacher by tagging them on Twitter @AZOLibertyBowl. The AutoZone Liberty Bowl will choose a teacher each week for 10 weeks.

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl is proud to support the College Football Playoff Foundation's Extra Yard For Teachers initiative. The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation is the charitable arm of the College Football Playoff, supporting teachers and education across the country to improve U.S. student outcomes. The CFP Foundation's primary platform, Extra Yard for Teachers, elevates the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering teachers in four core areas: resources, recognition, professional development, recruitment and retention.
