Cedric Miller and Slade Calhoun, two outstanding veteran head coaches in the Memphis area, will lead the teams in the 21st Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game presented by ARS/Rescue Rooter and Conway Services and the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.
Miller, the head coach at MASE, will coach the Red Team. Calhoun, the head coach at Munford High School, will coach the Blue Team. The All-Star Game will feature the top senior players from Shelby County Schools, municipal schools and private schools in the Memphis area.
The game will be played on Saturday, December 9 at Memphis University School. Kickoff is at 2:30 pm. Tickets cost $10, for kids 6 and under the cost is $5.
“After more than two decades, the All-Star Game has become a tradition and one of the marquee events for local high school players and coaches,” said AutoZone Liberty Bowl Executive Director Steve Ehrhart. “With two long-time head coaches leading the teams, we will continue the tradition of excellence the All-Star Game has created over these many years.”
Cedric Miller is in his 25th year as a head coach and his second season as head coach at MASE. Miller’s first head coaching coach was at Wooddale High School (1999-2007). That was followed by stops at Southwind High School (2007-2015) and MAHS (2015-2022). He was named head coach at MASE in 2022. Miller has served as the Defensive Coordinator in several AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Games.
“The AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game provides a great opportunity to showcase the abundance of talent in the Memphis area,” said Miller. “It gives the selected senior players one last opportunity to cap off their high school football careers with a win. It’s a great way to kick off the December activities for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.”
Slade Calhoun is in his 23rd year coaching football. This is his 4th season as head coach at Munford High School and his 6th season overall has a head coach. In addition to Munford High School, Calhoun served as head coach for two seasons (2011-2012) at Haywood High School in Brownsville, TN. He was an assistant coach for the Blue Team in the 2022 All-Star Game.
“The AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game gives the fans an opportunity to see local talent they may not have seen,” said Calhoun. “Because of the exposure the All-Star Game has created over the past twenty years, there has been an increase in the appreciation for the overall talent that the Memphis area has at all levels.”
The All-Star teams will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of area head coaches and other football analysts. Each player must have the recommendation of his head coach and will be selected on the basis of his character, on-field achievement and classroom performance.
Player nominations must be submitted to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl by Friday, November 3.
